Volunteer Today
Volunteers are most important to the success of our program! Our most needed volunteers are individuals interested in delivering meals. Volunteers may also work in our office or represent us at fairs and events or participate on our Board of Directors.
Meal Delivery Volunteers
Mobile Meals of Trenton/Ewing delivers meals Monday through Friday each week. The primary volunteer opportunity offered by our agency is meal delivery, which requires a 2 hour commitment for each volunteer day. Meals in Trenton are delivered between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and we ask volunteers to arrive between 10:30 and 10:45. In Ewing, meals are delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and volunteers are expected to pick up meals between 10:00 and 10:15.
“Regular” volunteers commit to a delivery route once per week (i.e. Route 5 Driver every Monday). Our “substitutes” volunteer to be called in when regulars are absent (as needed). Substitutes may be called anywhere from once per week to once per month. We request that a minimum commitment is once monthly.
Volunteers deliver meals in pairs, with a “driver” who uses his or her personal vehicle to navigate a delivery route (with point to point directions provided). “Runners” accompany the driver, and bring the meal from the car to the client’s home or apartment.
We have many “teams” of volunteers who are husband/wife teams, longtime friends, and individuals who have become friends through their volunteer experience at Mobile Meals. In addition, several of our “teams” are groups like ARC Mercer, Easter Seals, and others whose staff deliver meals with their consumers. We are also happy to welcome one-time volunteer groups from area companies and organizations for a day of service. In the summer months, we need additional volunteers to fill in when our regular volunteers are unavailable. Being a “summer substitute” is an ideal opportunity for teachers and others who have extra time off during the summer months, or for grandparents who wish to teach their grandchildren about the joys of volunteering.
Office Volunteers
Another opportunity for participation at Mobile Meals is to volunteer in our office. Office volunteers support staff by packing nonperishable groceries, working on mailings and newsletters, helping us keep up with our filing, doing some light data entry, and helping on a variety of other projects as they come up! Office volunteers would need to be available at some point during our office hours, which are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Fair and Event Volunteers
Not available during the week? Consider joining us as a “fair and event volunteer”. Occasionally throughout the year, Mobile Meals of Trenton/Ewing participates in community fairs (such as Ewing Community Fest at TCNJ and community health fairs) and events (like gift wrapping at Barnes and Noble, or selling 50/50 tickets at a Trenton Thunder baseball game). We are always seeking volunteers to help represent us in the community. Fair and event volunteers may also consider helping us with speaking engagements to publicize our program in the local community, or writing an article for submission to a local media outlet.
Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is actively seeking new members. Responsibilities of Board members include attending Board and committee meetings (both held quarterly), active participation on at least one committee, support agency fundraising activities, and inform the Board in areas of personal/professional expertise. Contact our Executive Director at (609) 695-3483 or executivedirector@mmte.org for further information or to join the Board.
